A rose was grown by William Green in his garden in Tickhill and given to Albert Houthuesen, a Dutch born artist who lived at 21 St Mary’s Gate during 1943-45. Albert not only painted this version in water colour, but also at least two other paintings incorporated this rose and others which William gave him.
